Last year in November, Glee actor, Naya Rivera and her son Josey rented out a boat for day trip in Lake Piru. Hours after they went out on the lake, Josey came back alone on the boat sleeping.
After a massive search for his mother they later found her body. Three year old Josey told officials that he and his mother were swimming and then she threw him on the boat and never came back.
Ryan Dorsey, Naya’s ex husband, stated that the county did not provide specific safety measure to endure their trip.
The lawsuit he claimed was that “The boat was not equipped with a safely accessible ladder, adequate rope, an anchor, a radio or any security mechanisms to prevent swimmers from being separated from their boats, nor any flotation or life saving devices.”
He also said that there weren’t any signs clearly pointing out the dangerous conditions of the lake and that the person who rented out the boat to them did not give them a life vest.
After those statements, Ryan was now allowed to seek punitive damages and have his lawsuit to move forward.
